The following questions and answers apply to the subject of Deliverance Ministry. Those who are not familiar with Deliverance Ministry may not agree with the following answers given. Please view with discretion. By all means, e-mail us if you have any questions.
Q. How do you know when you need deliverance?
A. You need deliverance, in my opinion, when you notice a pattern of uncontrollable habits or behaviors. For example, if you find yourself having constant lustful thoughts that you can not to shake. Or, uncontrollable fits of anger resulting in abusive language or actions. In summary, a prisoner knows when he is held captive.
Q. If God has delivered me, why do these feelings/thoughts keep coming back?
A. First I have to ask the question, were you totally delivered? Are there sins that you haven't repented of? Have you truly repented? If so, then you have to realize that deliverance is a process. There is work to do as far as you are concerned. You must resist temptation and the devil, James 4:7, you must force yourself think on things that are true, just, pure, and holy, ... (Philippians 4:8). You must use the word like Jesus did when He was tempted, (Matthew ch. 4).
Q. Why does it take a long time for a person to get delivered in a deliverance session?
A. It' surprising that all of Jesus' accounts of ministering deliverance to an individual seem to be immediate. But then again, He was God in the flesh. Luke 10:18 states that Jesus saw Satan fall like lightning. Jesus is the creator of the world, John 1:3, The Alpha and Omega, The Beginning and the End. He walked the earth with an anointing like no other. Those spirits didn't mess around with Jesus. They knew who He was and knew that He was going to be responsible for tormenting them in the end. They were and still are petrified of Him.
And, behold, they (the demons) cried out saying, what have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come to torment us before the time? (Matthew 8:29)
I've been in sessions that literally lasted hours. Many times we have to wait on God's leading. There may be times that a person is oppressed by multiple demons and we may not know exactly what the strongman is but then discovered in time by prayer, praise and scripture reading. For sure, the more a demonic spirit is allowed to talk, the longer it will try to stay. (They love to talk, boast and induce fear). Jesus many times silenced the demons not allowing them to talk.
Q. Should a deliverance minister converse with demons?
A. I must first note that I do not recommend that deliverance sessions be performed alone. It is obvious that while administering deliverance, demonic spirits do often use the body and vocal chords as they are manifesting, speaking and sometimes trying to do physical harm.
I do not suggest that any deliverance minister try to converse with demons. I do believe that there may be times to interrogate the demon as Jesus did in asking "What is your name?" (Mark Chp. 5). Most of our information should come from the Holy Spirit. Questions like, "what is my future going to be like, who am I going to marry, tell me about my deceased uncle, etc..." are definitely an abomination.
Many times demons blurt out information revealing their nature. When you hear words from the subject like, "I hate you, I'm going to kill you, I'm scared, etc..." you can pretty much know what type of spirit you are dealing with. It is then helpful to quote a scripture to counter the remark if possible.
Q. What things are needed for a deliverance session?
A. I definitely recommend a Bible, anointing oil, a pitcher of water and drinking glasses, a box of tissue, a note pad and pen, and a waste paper basket or bucket (for vomiting, sorry, but it is reality).
Here is an example of how effective the Word of God is:
One time I recall having the subject read Revelations chapter 19 through chapter 21. About midway through, the person threw my Bible on the floor crying, "I'm scared, I'm scared!" Obviously it was a spirit that induced lots of fear.
The word of God is vital in weakening the stronghold of any spirit!
Q. I am a minister and feel that I am called to deliverance ministry. I've read two books in particular that deal with this type of ministry, one is Pigs in the Parlor and the other is Laying on Hands. What advice do you have for a minister that doesn't know what to expect or where to turn to for guidance for this type of ministry.
A. Speaking from experience, you will encounter persecution (harassment) from people or demonic spirits. The adversary does not want you to venture out in this area in great measures so he and his cohorts will try all he can to discourage you. I advise you to study up on faith because your faith will be challenged.
You can expect to be misunderstood and looked at strange. Many do not understand deliverance ministry.
Your intimacy with God must be tight. Being sensitive to His voice is a must. Do all that you can to establish a good firm relationship with God. In deliverance sessions, following the leading of the Holy Spirit is a MUST.
Develop a lifestyle of fasting if you haven't already. It will be necessary for you to fast and intercede on behalf of others.
I also feel that it is very important that you remain as pure as possible. As it is said, "make sure there are no holes in your armor." You also want to ensure that there are no bondages in your life.
