"Discouraged or Disappointed?"

2-15-01

At times, life seems to be full of problems.  Have you ever felt like
you had the wind knocked out of you ...and just about when you caught
your breath ... Wham! something else happened?

This can be really discouraging.  I've been there quite a few times.
One day I felt compelled to define the word "discourage."  First I felt
that I needed to understand the word "courage."

Courage simply means that one has the inner strength to withstand
difficulties.  If I'm discouraged, that means that I do NOT have the
inner strength to go through.  I feel like that at times, but...

I found out in the word of God that God gives power to the faint and to
those that have no might, He increases strength (Isaiah 40:29).

Instead of telling everyone that I can't take anymore, I can tell them
that I have the strength to go through.  David said, "The Lord is my
STRENGTH and Shield, my heart trusted in Him and I am helped, therefore
will my heart greatly rejoices and with my heart, will I praise Him
(Psalm 28:7).

King David learned that God is his strength, a very present help in
trouble (Psalm 46:1).

No need to say that you're discouraged when God is your strength?  As
long as you have the Almighty One on the inside, you automatically have
strength on the inside.  Your God will help you get through whatever
you face.

Instead of being discouraged, be disappointed.  But ... don't stop
there.  If you have prayed, expect God to come to your rescue.  Then
turn your disappointment into praise, because help is on the way!
Meditating on the promises of God will encourage you to not give up.
Don't wait for someone else to encourage you, encourage yourself.
