You Are as Good as Anyone
1-11-01

This issue of ListenUp! commemorates the late Martin Luther King, Jr.
Because of his work and sacrifice along with other civil rights
activists, people of color have the right to vote and enjoy many
other privileges that others died trying to accomplish.

On my desk at work I have a picture of a little kitten looking
into a mirror.  The reflection the kitty-cat is staring at is
that of a lion.  The caption states,
"What really matters is how you see yourself."

As a child, young Martin had two inseparable Caucasian playmates.
When he would cross the street to get them to come out and play
the parents would say they couldn't.  They were not violent,
they continued to make excuses.  He asked his mother about it
and she explained slavery and segregation. She went ahead to tell
him, "You are as good as anyone."

The way Martin saw himself is what determined his great accomplishments.
In spite of how others saw him, he saw himself as good as anyone.

How others see you is not important.  If you view yourself as a very
special somebody going somewhere to happen, ... look out world.

What do you see when you look in the mirror?  If it is negative,
change it.  If there is a need for improvement, start working on it.

You could be on your way to achieving with excellence.  Good self-worth
is a priceless jewel necessary for your progress.
You are as good as anyone!
