Now the LORD had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying, …
To morrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him [to be] captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.
And when Samuel saw Saul, the LORD said unto him, Behold the man whom I spake to thee of! this same shall reign over my people. 1 Sam. 9:15-17
God spoke to Samuel that a man from the tribe of Benjamin was coming his way. Not only was this just a man but one whom Samuel would anoint as king. Samuel didn’t get a name or description of Saul, just that a man was coming.
It’s key to note that Samuel knew of something by way of prophecy, but on the other hand, what he knew was not enough to spot Saul when he came. What I’m getting at is that there are times when God gives you a piece of knowledge or insight but not all.
When God speaks to you prophetically, He may at times give you bits of the prophecy later followed by further revelation or instructions.
No matter how much revelation we get or prophecy is unveiled, we are still not all-knowing. Samuel still had to depend on God to point out who Saul was.
Like the apostle Paul said, we prophesy in part and we know in part. It behooves us to remain open to God for further insight, further instruction. I must admit, it may be a little frustrating waiting for God to give that further revelation but it keeps us humble in relying on Him.
Keep the Channel Open. God may have more to say.
